The screenplay was adapted by Senad Halilbasic, known for his work on Pagan Peak, from the bestselling book by Barbara Pachl-Eberhart. This Austrian-German co-production, developed by 2010 Entertainment and Giganten Film in association with ORF-FFA, BR, SWR, and Arte, debuted at the Berlin Film Festival’s Panorama section. There, it earned the prestigious Europa Cinemas Label Award and secured second place in the Panorama Audience Award.
Four Minus Three has attracted international attention, securing distribution deals in several territories. It has been sold to Pyramide for France, Arti for the Benelux countries, A-Z Films for Canada, Palace Films for Australia and New Zealand, and Swallow Wings for Taiwan. The international sales agent Beta Cinema continues to negotiate further global deals.
In its home country of Austria, the film has been a notable box office success, released by Polyfilm/Alamode. It has drawn 70,096 admissions and generated €730,705 ($862,600) in theatrical revenue. Alamode Film plans to release the movie in Germany on April 16, continuing its expansion to new markets.
The film’s critical acclaim is further underscored by several accolades. Valerie Pachner recently received the Best Actress award at the Diagonale Film Festival in Graz, Austria. Additionally, Four Minus Three has earned eight nominations at the Austrian Film Awards, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actress, and Best Supporting Actor for Robert Stadlober.
