AceShowbiz - Euphoria fans will notice a significant change in the show's musical landscape for its upcoming third season, as British singer and producer Labrinth has confirmed his music will not be included in the new episodes.
On April 11, Labrinth, 37, addressed his absence from the HBO series’ soundtrack via a statement shared on his Instagram Stories. The new season of Euphoria is set to premiere the following day, April 12. Labrinth’s departure from the soundtrack comes amid news that Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer will be the sole music composer for the upcoming eight episodes, which take place five years after the previous season’s timeline.
Previously, Zimmer had been announced as a collaborator with Labrinth on the show’s music. However, in his statement, Labrinth revealed he decided to remove all his contributions. He wrote in all caps, "PEOPLE WILL COMFORTABLE LIE IN THIS INDUSTRY AND STILL CALL THEMSELVES HONEST PEOPLE. SO NO CAP. I DECIDED TO REMOVE WHAT EVER MUSIC I HAD IN IT."
Labrinth also emphasized his professional boundaries, stating, "WHEN I WORK FOR SOMEONE, THEIR VISION IS PARAMOUNT TO ME. BUT I DON'T LET PEOPLE TREAT ME LIKE S-T." He added that he has communicated with HBO and believes the situation is amicable, saying, "I SPOKE TO HBO AS FAR I KNOW WE ARE COOL."
This is not the first time Labrinth has publicly expressed frustration with the music industry. Just a month prior, in March, he posted a now-deleted message that was sharply critical of his record label and the show, stating, "I'M DONE WITH THIS INDUSTRY / F-K COLUMBIA / DOUBLE F-K EUPHORIA / I'M OUT."
Earlier in the week, Euphoria creator and executive producer Sam Levinson spoke to Rolling Stone about the changes in the show's musical direction. When asked about Labrinth’s absence, Levinson remarked, "I don't know," but acknowledged Labrinth as "an incredible collaborator and someone who really built the foundation of the sound of Euphoria."
Levinson also explained the reasoning behind bringing Hans Zimmer on board as the sole composer. He noted that each character’s storyline in Euphoria is treated like its own film, suggesting that Zimmer’s cinematic style is fitting for the direction of season 3.
Since the show's debut in 2019, Labrinth has served as the lead score producer for Euphoria, helping to shape its distinctive soundtrack. Prior to his work on the series and his relationship with Columbia Records, Labrinth was signed to Simon Cowell’s label Syco, releasing two albums under that banner. His musical career includes seven songs reaching the Billboard Hot 100 chart, including a collaboration with Zendaya, who stars in Euphoria.
In addition to these developments, Labrinth is scheduled to perform on the outdoor stage at the 2026 Coachella festival on Saturday, April 11, indicating his continued presence in the music scene despite the controversy surrounding his departure from Euphoria.
