AceShowbiz - The musical project Johnny Blue Skies, the alter ego of Sturgill Simpson, has revealed plans for an extensive arena tour this fall following the recent success of their latest release.

Just over a week after their album Mutiny After Midnight debuted impressively at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart — a notable feat given it was a physical-only release — the group is gearing up for the "Mutiny for the Masses" tour. This arena run will kick off on September 4 in Austin, Texas, and will cover 29 cities before wrapping up at Lexington, Kentucky’s Rupp Arena on October 30. Notably, the tour will feature no opening acts, allowing Johnny Blue Skies & the Dark Clouds to command the full spotlight at each show.

Sturgill Simpson began releasing music under the Johnny Blue Skies & the Dark Clouds name starting in 2024 with the album Passage du Desir. This marked a shift after he announced that his 2021 album The Ballad of Dood and Juanita would be his final project released under his own name.

The Mutiny After Midnight album had a strong commercial performance upon its March 20 release, moving 59,000 units through vinyl, CD, and cassette formats. This achievement marked the first time in nearly three years that a physical-only album debuted in the Billboard 200 top 10, the previous occurrence being Taylor Swift’s limited-edition vinyl release of Folklore for Record Store Day.

In addition to its overall Billboard 200 success, Mutiny After Midnight also secured the No. 1 spot on multiple genre-specific Billboard charts, including Top Rock & Alternative Albums, Top Rock Albums, and Americana/Folk Albums.

Starting April 1, the album will be available for digital download on iTunes, including an exclusive bonus track: a cover of Eddie Murphy’s 1985 hit "Party All the Time." Fans can also look forward to a special Record Store Day release on April 18 — a two-sided 7-inch picture disc featuring Johnny Blue Skies & the Dark Clouds versions of Procol Harum’s classic "A Whiter Shade of Pale" and William Bell’s "You Don’t Miss Your Water."
