AceShowbiz - Takeover introduces Quavo in a leading role that highlights his transition into acting with a high-profile crime drama. The official trailer for the film showcases Quavo as Guy Miller, an ex-convict striving for redemption after serving time behind bars.
The film also stars notable actors including Billy Zane, Serayah, LaMonica Garrett, and Martin Sensmeier. It carries special significance with a posthumous appearance by the late Migos member Takeoff, marking his final on-screen role. This was made possible through the innovative hybrid animation technology developed by Trioscope, the same studio behind the Netflix animated drama The Liberator.
In Takeover, Quavo portrays Guy Miller, a former major player in Atlanta’s criminal underworld, now freshly released from prison and determined to change his life. However, a high-stakes job quickly pulls him back into turmoil. The synopsis details how this job triggers a citywide upheaval involving rival gangs, aggressive law enforcement, and unseen forces manipulating events from the shadows.
One pivotal scene involves Miller meeting his parole officer, who brings up the death of his brother Vernon Miller. Vernon was killed during a robbery, leaving behind two children for whom Guy assumes a fatherly role. The storyline surrounding Vernon mirrors the tragic real-life death of Takeoff, who was fatally shot in Houston in 2022. This parallel suggests the late rapper portrays Vernon in the film.
As the plot unfolds, Guy faces mounting pressure with his family’s safety on the line. He is forced to re-enter the world of street racing, a dangerous environment that cost him years of his life. The narrative explores his struggle with old loyalties, fractured relationships, and confronting the person he thought he had left behind.
Takeover employs Trioscope’s hybrid animation technique, blending live-action performances with a graphic novel-inspired visual style. The film is a collaborative production involving GNR Films LLC, Huncho Films, Quality Films, and Real Folk Productions. It is scheduled for theatrical release on May 8.
While this film represents Quavo’s most significant acting role to date, he has previously appeared in several TV shows and films. Early in his career, he appeared with Migos in the series Atlanta (2016) and later made guest appearances on shows like Black-ish and Ballers in 2019, along with a cameo in Narcos: Mexico.
