AceShowbiz - Nearly a decade after the failure of the Dark Universe, Universal is planning a fresh revival of its iconic monsters through a new television series developed by Kevin Williamson.
In a recent interview with Esquire, promoting Williamson’s Scream 7, he revealed that Universal has entrusted him with creating a TV show centered around the classic Universal Monsters.
Describing his upcoming show as "an adult Vampire Diaries," Williamson explained that the series will be set within the world of Universal’s legendary creatures like Dracula, Frankenstein, and the Wolf Man. He expressed enthusiasm about having the chance to "play with some of those characters."
The announcement marks Universal’s latest attempt to successfully unify its classic monsters on screen after previous efforts failed to resonate with audiences.
More recently, 2014’s Dracula Untold sought to reimagine the vampire lord but failed to take off. This led to the 2017 reboot of The Mummy, intended as the first entry in the Dark Universe. Despite featuring Tom Cruise in the lead, the movie was a box office disappointment.
Now, with Williamson at the helm of a new TV venture, Universal hopes to finally succeed in revitalizing its monstrous icons for modern audiences.
