AceShowbiz - KATSEYE have revealed that member Manon Bannerman will be taking a temporary hiatus from the group in order to prioritise her health and wellbeing.
The Grammy-nominated Los Angeles girl group, created by Hybe and Geffen Records, made the announcement on February 20 via a statement posted on Weverse. The message explained that following “open and thoughtful conversations together,” the decision was made for Manon Bannerman to step back temporarily from group commitments to focus on her personal health.
Hybe and Geffen Records expressed their full support for this choice, emphasising that KATSEYE remains dedicated to supporting one another and their fans, who are very important to them. Despite Manon Bannerman’s hiatus, the group confirmed they will continue with their scheduled activities during this period and look forward to reuniting “when the time is right.”
The announcement comes as KATSEYE continues to build on their success, having released their Beautiful Chaos EP last year. One track from the EP, “Gnarly,” was recognised by NME as the fifth best song of the year.
In an interview with NME last year, Manon Bannerman shared her excitement about the track “Gnarly,” saying, “I didn’t expect such a crazy song. I was just super excited because I was like, ‘Oh my god, finally we can cuss!’”
The group has also been open about the challenges of fame following their win at Dream Academy in 2023. Member Lara Rajagopalan spoke to the BBC about the darker side of success, stating, “If 1,000 people are, like, sending you death threats, it’s jarring. Even if it’s not gonna happen, and it doesn’t mean anything, it’s heavy, and it’s jarring.”
Looking ahead, KATSEYE have expressed a strong desire to collaborate with Charli XCX, whom they describe as an inspiration. Their breakout hit “Gabriela,” which remains their biggest chart success, was co-written by the 'Brat' star.
