WW2 drama Nuremberg quietly crossed $15M globally, surpassing Flyboys' domestic gross. Discover its surprising box office success story!

AceShowbiz - The World War 2 drama Nuremberg is navigating the final stretch of its theatrical run, having quietly achieved a significant box office milestone. After a modest opening, the film has consistently remained within the domestic top 10 charts, recently crossing the $15 million global mark. Despite not yet launching in numerous overseas markets, Nuremberg appears to have reached its domestic peak, facing competition from the similarly-themed but tonally distinct Sisu: Road to Revenge, a film that would likely amuse Quentin Tarantino with its unique style.
However, Nuremberg, a more traditional awards season drama, has managed to surpass the lifetime domestic gross of several past war films. Its latest victory sees it overtake one of James Franco's notable box office disappointments: the 2006 World War 1 epic, Flyboys. While Nuremberg stands at over $15 million globally, Flyboys concluded its run with a disappointing $14.8 million, especially considering its hefty $60 million production budget.
Flyboys, directed by Oscar-winning Tony Bill, was a costly endeavor that featured current Paramount boss David Ellison in a rare acting role, with his company Skydance Entertainment also co-producing. Released after Franco's star-making turns in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man films, Flyboys unfortunately opened to scathing reviews. It currently holds a dismal 34% score on Rotten Tomatoes, where the critical consensus bluntly states: "A poorly scripted history-rewriting exercise with mediocre acting and unconvincing CGI battle scenes."
In stark contrast, Nuremberg, helmed by director James Vanderbilt, has garnered a more favorable reception. The film stars Oscar-winner Russell Crowe as the infamous Nazi war criminal Hermann Göring, alongside Rami Malek, who portrays the American psychiatrist tasked with understanding Göring's psyche before the historic Nuremberg Trials. The movie debuted to largely positive reviews, reflected in its 71% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Yet, it's the overwhelming support from audiences that has truly propelled its journey through the box office landscape.
Nuremberg boasts an impressive 96% "verified hot" audience score on the aggregator, a strong indicator of its potential for success in the home video market. Featuring additional performances from acclaimed actors like Michael Shannon and Leo Woodall, Nuremberg continues its run in theaters, proving that a strong audience connection can sometimes outweigh a soft opening. Stay tuned for further updates on its performance and eventual home entertainment release.
