AceShowbiz - We Were Liars author E. Lockhart has revealed exciting details about the upcoming season 2 of the Prime Video series, as well as a new YA spin-off. We Were Liars has been greenlit for a second season, and Lockhart shared that the new season will adapt the prequel novel, Family of Liars, and focus on the Sinclair sisters.

The TV series, released earlier this year, follows Cadence Sinclair (played by Emily Alyn Lind) as she faces the reality of an accident that tore the Sinclairs apart. Everyone, including her friends Johnny (Joseph Zada), Gat (Shubham Maheshwari), and Mirren (Esther McGregor), seems to be hiding something deeper. At the end of season 1, we saw Johnny's mom, Carrie (Mamie Gummer), address his ghost, which could suggest Johnny's return and a deeper look into how the tragic accident impacted each of them.

Lockhart confirmed that she can't say much about season 2's production progress, but "the new season will fold in the story of Family of Liars, and at the same time, I know the showrunners have a bunch of tricks up their sleeve so that people who've read Family of Liars will still be surprised." The author also confirmed that Caitlin Fitzgerald, Candice King, Gummer, David Morse, Zada, and Lind will be returning for the second season.

In addition to the new season, Lockhart has released a new book, We Fell Apart: A We Were Liars Novel, which follows all new characters with their own mysteries and secrets to uncover. Initially, the book was a standalone, but Lockhart explained that "the world of We Were Liars was seeping into We Fell Apart, to the point where I was like, 'Oh, this is really a book in the same universe.'" We Were Liars season 1 received a 60% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but it remained one of the Top 10 TV shows in the U.S. for several months after its release.
