AceShowbiz - Fresh off this year's CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Disney unleashed the eagerly awaited trailer for "Tron: Ares", the third installment in the beloved "Tron" franchise. The trailer reveals the collision of the real world and the video game world, setting the stage for a high-stakes adventure.
Jeff Bridges, who starred as the original protagonist Kevin Flynn, can be heard asking, "Ready? Cause there's no going back," as Jared Leto's character, Ares, makes his on-screen debut.
The trailer teases Ares' high-octane pursuits, including a Light Cycle chase amid wailing police car sirens, hinting at a film that will undoubtedly keep audiences on the edge of their seats.
Leto, 53, leads a star-studded cast that includes Evan Peters, Greta Lee, Cameron Monaghan, Arturo Castro, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Gillian Anderson.
In "Tron: Ares", Leto takes on the titular role of Ares, described as "a highly sophisticated Program" who escapes from the digital world into the real world, marking humanity's first encounter with AI beings. The film is scheduled for release on October 10, 2025.
The narrative continues the legacy started in the 1982 original, where Kevin Flynn hacks into a computer and enters the game he's designing. The plot thickened in "Tron: Legacy" (2010) with Flynn's son venturing into cyberspace to battle rogue programs. Now, "Tron: Ares" promises to push the boundaries even further.
Director Joaquim Ronning, thrilled to helm the project, stated, "I'm excited to be part of the Tron franchise and bring this new film to fans around the world. Tron: Ares builds upon the legacy of cutting-edge design, technology, and storytelling. Now more than ever, it feels like the right time to return to the Grid."
Leto, a self-proclaimed fan of the franchise, shared his excitement, noting, "I mean, I must have seen the first Tron a couple dozen times growing up. I loved - I still love - Tron. It was a pleasure when I was researching and kind of developing the character to visit the first film and the second film multiple times, and that was really fun for me as a kid."
Jeff Bridges, returning to his iconic role, admitted he was anxious about working with Leto but acknowledged the actor's talent, expressing his admiration for Leto's work.
With its star-studded cast and compelling story and visuals, "Tron: Ares" aims to be a groundbreaking cinematic experience, epitomizing the cutting-edge spirit that has defined the Tron legacy.
