Get your guitars ready and prepare for another journey into the Land of the Dead! Pixar has just announced that 'Coco 2' is officially in development, promising even more humor, heart, and adventure.

AceShowbiz - Disney's beloved animated movie "Coco" is getting a sequel. Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed the exciting news during a shareholders' meeting, stating that "Coco 2" is still in its initial stages.

"It will be full of humor, heart, and adventure," he promised. "We can't wait to share more soon."

The original "Coco" filmmakers, Lee Unkrich and Adrian Molina, will be returning to direct the highly anticipated follow-up, which is set for a 2029 theatrical release. c=Mark Nielsen], the Oscar-winning producer behind "Toy Story 4" and "Inside Out 2," will be producing the sequel.

The original "Coco," released in 2017, tells the story of a 12-year-old boy named Miguel (voiced by Anthony Gonzalez), who dreams of becoming a musician despite his family's generations-old ban on music. Miguel's journey takes him to the vibrant Land of the Dead, where he unlocks the real story behind his family history with the aid of a trickster spirit.

"Coco" grossed nearly $815 million at the worldwide box office and won two Oscars, including Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for "Remember Me," from Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez.

Since its release, "Coco" has grown in significance for Disney, inspiring everything from elaborate live shows at Disney Parks to a dinner theater experience on the Disney Treasure cruise ship.

The movie has become a key part of Disney's Halloween offerings, with multiple airings on linear Disney channels during the holiday and major placement on Disney+. The emphasis on "Coco" is set to expand even further.

Last year, at the D23 Expo, Disney announced the first-ever "Coco" ride for Disney California Adventure, part of the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim. Inspired by classic Disney attractions like "Pirates of the Caribbean" and the "Haunted Mansion", the new ride will bring the skeletal cast of characters to life with the latest Audio-Animatronics technology.

As Disney and Pixar gear up for "Coco 2," young fans around the world can look forward to another magical musical adventure that promises to capture their hearts all over again.

Meanwhile, Disney continues its slate of upcoming Pixar films, including "Elio" (June), "Hoppers" (March 2026), "Toy Story 5" (June 2026), and "The Incredibles 3" in development.
