The 2025 Critics Choice Awards, hosted by Chelsea Handler, have been postponed because of wildfires ravaging southern California and forcing a number of stars to evacuate.

AceShowbiz - As California faces one of its most destructive wildfire seasons, the 2025 Critics Choice Awards, originally scheduled for January 12, have been postponed. The event will now take place on January 26 at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica and air live on E!, with streaming available on Peacock the following day.

The Critics Choice Awards, hosted by Chelsea Handler for the third consecutive year, is just one among several Hollywood events affected by the fires. The decision to reschedule was made as wildfires continue to wreak havoc across Los Angeles, forcing the evacuation of over 30,000 people and claiming at least two lives.

"This unfolding tragedy has already had a profound impact on our community," Critics Choice Association CEO Joey Berlin said in a statement. "All our thoughts and prayers are with those battling the devastating fires and with all who have been affected."

The wildfires have not only disrupted the Critics Choice Awards but have also led to the cancellation of multiple high-profile events. These include the live 2025 SAG Awards nominations announcement, premieres of films like "Wolf Man" and "Unstoppable," and the annual BAFTA Tea Party in Beverly Hills. Even Universal Studios Hollywood had to close its doors for the first time since the 2020 COVID pandemic.

Among the top Critics Choice Awards nominees are "Wicked" and "Conclave," each with 11 nominations, while "Shogun" leads TV nominations with six overall nods. Despite the rescheduling, the event will continue to honor outstanding achievements in film and television, providing a much-needed moment of celebration amid widespread devastation.

Stars like Jamie Lee Curtis, Steve Guttenberg, Spencer Pratt, and Mark Hamill have taken to social media to share their evacuation experiences and urged the public to support the firefighting efforts. Curtis specifically called on her followers to "stay out of the way and let the firefighters do their work."

While many Los Angeles-based events are in flux, it seems that those scheduled in New York are proceeding as planned. The National Board of Review held its NYC awards gala on Tuesday, and New York premieres for "American Primeval," "Back in Action," and "Goosebumps: The Vanishing" have not been canceled. The AARP Awards set for Saturday are also still scheduled to proceed.

As Hollywood and the surrounding communities navigate this challenging time, the rescheduled Critics Choice Awards aims to offer a beacon of hope and celebration, highlighting the resilience and strength of both the entertainment industry and the affected communities.
