Despite earlier reports to the contrary, the 'Dexter: Trinity Killer' prequel series is making significant progress and remains a high priority for Paramount+ and Showtime.

AceShowbiz - The "Dexter: Trinity Killer" prequel series, following the origins of the infamous serial killer played by John Lithgow on the original series, is officially in development at Paramount+ with Showtime. Clyde Phillips, the original "Dexter" showrunner, and fellow veteran Scott Reynolds are serving as co-creators and executive producers.
Earlier this year, erroneous reports suggested that the project was being shelved. However, sources close to production confirm that this was not the case. Writing for the series has been completed, and John Lithgow has agreed to narrate as the younger version of his character, just as Michael C. Hall is doing for "Dexter: Original Sin".
"We wrote the entire 'Trinity Killer' series," Phillips said. "John Lithgow has agreed to be the voice of his younger self."
Currently, the "Trinity Killer" prequel is on hold as Paramount+ and Showtime focus on "Dexter: Original Sin", which premiered in December 2024, and "Dexter: Resurrection", which will continue the highly-rated limited series "Dexter: New Blood".
However, the success of "Dexter: Original Sin", which attracted 2.1 million global viewers in its first three days, could prompt Paramount+ and Showtime to greenlight the "Trinity Killer" prequel. The network executives are likely waiting to see how "Original Sin" performs before committing to the new series.
The Trinity Killer, created by Phillips for the original "Dexter" series, first appeared in season 4 and is considered one of the show's most chilling villains. The prequel series is expected to delve into his backstory, including the horrific childhood that shaped him into a murderous monster.
