AceShowbiz - Tom Cruise will not slow down after his highly anticipated farewell to the "Mission: Impossible" franchise. The action superstar is set to star in "Broadsword," a World War II epic directed by his long-time collaborator, Christopher McQuarrie, who helmed multiple "Mission Impossible" movies including the upcoming one.
Production for "Broadsword" is scheduled to commence in July 2025, just two months after the release of "Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning" on May 23, 2025. This marks the ninth collaboration between Cruise and McQuarrie, who have successfully crafted crowd-pleasing hits such as "Mission: Impossible – Fallout," "Top Gun: Maverick," and "Edge of Tomorrow."
Set during the height of World War II, "Broadsword" tells the harrowing story of a battle-hardened Marine sergeant who becomes the sole survivor of an S.O.E. operation after crashing in France. Stranded behind enemy lines, he forms an unlikely alliance with a young girl. Together, they must navigate treacherous terrain, outsmart pursuers, and reunite with his team to complete their mission.
Last year, McQuarrie hinted at the "gnarly" project he was developing for Cruise after the release of "Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One." He revealed that he had co-written the script with Erik Jendresen.
The Cruise-McQuarrie partnership has proven to be a success story in Hollywood, generating billion-dollar box office hits and showcasing Cruise's unparalleled stunt work. "Broadsword" is shaping up to be another highly anticipated collaboration between the duo.
While fans prepare to bid farewell to Ethan Hunt with "Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning," they can eagerly await the release of "Broadsword," a thrilling WWII epic starring Tom Cruise and directed by Christopher McQuarrie.
