AceShowbiz - On Friday, December 20, the wrestling community was shocked to learn of the passing of Miguel Angel Lopez Dias, known professionally as Rey Misterio Sr. The news was shared on social media by his son El Hijo de Rey Misterio. A cause of death has not been disclosed.

Misterio Sr. began his wrestling career in 1976. He wrestled for various Mexican promotions, including Pro Wrestling Revolution, Tijuana Wrestling, World Wrestling Association (WWA) and Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide. In 1990, he gained international recognition when he appeared in World Championship Wrestling's Starrcade pay-per-view alongside Konnan.

Throughout his career, Mysterio Sr. won multiple titles, including the Revolution Tag Team Championship with his son, the IWC World Middleweight Championship, and the WWA World Junior Light Heavyweight Championship. He also played a pivotal role in training his son, nephew and numerous other wrestlers, including Konnan, Psicosis, Halloween and Damian 666.

In 2006, Mysterio Sr. was inducted into the Tijuana Sports Hall of Fame. Although he retired from professional wrestling in 2009, he made a brief return in 2023 for one final match.
