Aaron Pierre, the star of 'Mufasa: The Lion King', will play John Stewart in HBO's upcoming 'Lanterns' series, despite not having seen the infamous 2011 live-action 'Green Lantern' movie.

AceShowbiz - Aaron Pierre, who will portray John Stewart in HBO's "Lanterns" series, has revealed that he has yet to watch the 2011 Ryan Reynolds-led "Green Lantern" film. However, Pierre grew up on the "Justice League" cartoons from the early 2000s, particularly "Justice League Unlimited", which prominently featured John Stewart as one of the first Black heroes in DC Comics.

Pierre stated that he finds the "Lanterns" project exciting and praised the creative team behind it. The series follows John Stewart as a new recruit to the Green Lantern Corps, an intergalactic peacekeeping organization. Each Lantern possesses a power ring that enables them to create anything through willpower. John teams up with Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) to investigate a murder on Earth, leading to a larger mystery with implications for the DCU.

Pierre described the casting process for John Stewart as a "beautiful experience." Despite his introverted nature, he remained focused on delivering his best performance in the rigorous audition process. He believes that "what's meant for you won't miss you" and is now grateful for the opportunity to portray such an iconic character.

"Lanterns" does not yet have an official release date but will premiere after "Creature Commandos]", "Superman" and "Peacemaker" season 2.
