AceShowbiz - AMC has canceled "Parish" after its first and only season, the network announced Thursday. The six-episode drama premiered in March and starred Giancarlo Esposito as Gracian "Gray" Parish.
The show, created by Danny Brocklehurst and Jim Poyser, followed Parish, a "family man and proud owner of a luxury car service in New Orleans." After his son's murder and his business's collapse, Parish encounters an old friend from his days as a wheelman, leading him into a dangerous collision course with a criminal syndicate.
AMC expressed gratitude for the cast and crew's contributions, stating, "We are so proud of 'Parish' and the creative talent involved." While a second season will not proceed, Season 1 will remain available on AMC+ for fans.
"The Hollywood Reporter" praised Esposito's performance, while other aspects of the show received mixed reviews. The supporting cast included Zackary Momoh, Paula Malcomson, Skeet Ulrich, Bonnie Mbuili, Ivan Mbakop, Arica Himmel, Dax Rey, Bradley Whitford and Amanda Brugel.
"Parish" was produced by AMC Studios, in association with A+E Studios and Thruline Entertainment. Brocklehurst served as co-creator and executive producer, while Eduardo Javier Canto and Ryan Maldonado were showrunners and executive producers. Esposito also executive produced alongside Brocklehurst, Poyser, Jolyon Symonds, David Morrissey, Josh Kesselman, Danny Sherman, Barry Jossen, Tana Jamieson, Theo Travers, and Nicola Shindler.
The cancellation of "Parish" marks the second AMC series starring a former "Breaking Bad" and "Better Call Saul" star to be axed after one season, following the cancellation of "Lucky Hank" starring Bob Odenkirk in December 2023.
