AceShowbiz - In an intimate interview with Oprah Winfrey at her family's Graceland residence, Riley Keough discussed her mother Lisa Marie Presley's death for the first time. Lisa Marie passed away on January 12, 2023, at 54 from a cardiac arrest.
Keough, who completed her mother's posthumous memoir "From Here to the Great Unknown", remembers the last three weeks of Lisa Marie's life with concern. "She felt detached, tired," said Keough, dismissing any suspicion of drug use.
The death of Benjamin in 2020 cast a shadow over Lisa Marie's later years. "I was like, 'this is the end of her,'" Keough recalled of the close bond between mother and son. She also described the disturbing incident where Benjamin's body was kept in a coffin at home for two months.
Growing up with Lisa Marie as her mother meant grappling with the legacy of Elvis Presley, whose premature death left a profound impact on her. "I had a mother who was kind of feeling like, 'how could you leave me?'" said Keough. "I remember being young and feeling frustrated that he did that."
Despite her mixed feelings about Graceland, Keough plans to honor her mother's wishes by preserving it as a home for the family. She also described Michael Jackson, whom Lisa Marie married in 1994, as "only kind and loving" to her and their family.
In the wake of her mother and brother's passing, Keough navigates grief with fluctuating intensity. "I think I was resistant to it at first, going 'I can't handle this again,'" she told Winfrey. "But it changes all the time."
