AceShowbiz - Brittany Furlan witnessed a terrifying attack on her dog, Neena, by a coyote in the backyard of her Woodland Hills, California home. Ring security camera footage captured the alarming incident, which unfolded on Tuesday afternoon.
The footage shows the coyote charging at Furlan's two dogs, grabbing Neena, an English cream long-haired miniature dachshund, by the pool and sprinting off. Furlan chased the coyote and successfully retrieved her dog from the animal's mouth.
"Thank God she's a little bit fat because he couldn't make it over the wall with her," the wife of Tommy Lee wrote on Instagram, expressing relief that Neena's size prevented her from being carried away.
Although Neena was unharmed, Furlan expressed concern about the increasing boldness of coyotes in the area. "Please be very careful with your dogs," she urged her followers. "I've lived here for four years and I've never seen one coyote and then today this happened. They are desperate."
Coyote attacks on humans are rare, but small pets are often targeted. Experts believe that food scarcity in the fall drives coyotes to seek out neighborhood pets as prey. To prevent such encounters, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife recommends never leaving dogs unattended outside, securing pet food and water indoors, and making loud noises and waving arms if approached by a coyote.
Furlan's encounter with the coyote highlights the importance of pet safety and the vigilance required in areas where coyotes are present. The incident serves as a reminder to pet owners to take precautions and to be aware of their surroundings.
