Over two decades after the original "Gladiator" film, Lucius battles in the Colosseum, driven by a desire to reclaim what has been taken from him. Denzel Washington portrays Macrinus, a wealthy power broker who recruits Lucius into his gladiatorial stable.

Lucius's journey is fueled by a burning rage against Roman General Marcus Acacius (Pedro Pascal), who enslaved him.
