AceShowbiz - "Alien" director Ridley Scott passed the torch to Fede Alvarez for the upcoming "Alien: Romulus", with a succinct note that read, "Don't f**k up." Alvarez, inheriting directorial duties from Scott after the disappointing performance of "Alien: Covenant", capitalized on his fresh energy. "Fede is a surge of energy, and I had to step back and let him do it,”" said Scott.
Despite surrendering the director's chair, Scott remained involved as lead producer, recognizing the danger of franchise stagnation. "They do die unless somebody suddenly decides to pick up the mat and run down the field with a ball," he explained.
Alvarez had a clear vision and a detailed script, which Scott respected. "I do not need advice," Scott said. "If I fall on my own sword and therefore lie bleeding, I say, 'It was my fault.' "
The film, set between "Alien" and "Aliens", follows Cailee Spaeny and Isabela Merced as two young adults planning to escape their home planet. However, their plans are disrupted by unforeseen events.
Spaeny emphasizes the significance of the "Alien" franchise and the film's position within it. "This story slips right in between 'Alien' and 'Aliens'," she says. Alvarez adds, "There's a lot of secrets... that will cost them dearly."
"Romulus" promises to deliver the quintessential elements that have made the franchise beloved by fans, including its spine-chilling scares. The film is scheduled to be theatrically released by 20th Century Studios on August 16.
