AceShowbiz - The "Lanterns" series, based on the popular DC Comics characters, has moved from Max streaming service to HBO and has received an official series order. The redeveloped adaptation will focus on the intergalactic adventures of legendary Green Lantern a.k.a. Hal Jordan and new recruit John Stewart.

Hal Jordan, previously portrayed by Ryan Reynolds in the 2011 "Green Lantern" film, is a reinvention of the original Green Lantern from the 1940s. John Stewart, on the other hand, is the first African-American superhero to grace DC Comics, created in the early 1970s.

Chris Mundy will serve as showrunner and executive producer for 'Lanterns,' collaborating with Damon Lindelof and Tom King, who will also write the series. The show is an integral part of a new DC Universe strategy that includes moving high-budget scripted series to linear television networks for initial airing.

The eight-episode straight-to-series order will feature a compelling storyline that revolves around a murder investigation in the American heartland. As Hal and John team up to unravel the mystery, they will encounter a dark and enigmatic force that may have far-reaching consequences.

No casting announcements have been made for the series, which will join other big-budget shows on HBO, such as "Harry Potter" and "Welcome to Derry".
