AceShowbiz - Amazon MGM Studios has announced the development of a sequel to its hit romantic comedy "Red, White & Royal Blue", based on Casey McQuiston's bestselling novel. Stars Nicholas Galitzine and Taylor Zakhar Perez will reprise their roles as Alex Claremont-Diaz, the First Son of the United States, and Prince Henry, a British prince.
Matthew Lopez, who co-wrote and directed the first film, will return to write the screenplay alongside McQuiston. Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter of Berlanti Schechter Films will once again produce, joined by Michael McGrath and López. McQuiston will executive produce.
Plot details for the sequel remain under wraps, but the original film chronicled the enemies-to-lovers relationship between Alex and Henry, who were forced to fake a truce to prevent international fallout after a public altercation.
"Red, White & Royal Blue" was a massive success for Amazon Prime Video, propelling Galitzine and Perez to stardom. The sequel announcement was made during a screening of the film at the Culver Theater, where the cast and filmmakers revealed the project to an excited audience.
The sequel's development marks the continuation of Amazon MGM Studios' commitment to diverse and inclusive storytelling. The original film's positive reception and global impact have paved the way for more representation and LGBTQ+ visibility in mainstream media.
Galitzine and Perez have been on a meteoric rise since the release of "Red, White & Royal Blue." Galitzine has starred in "The Idea of You" and "Mary & George", while Perez has appeared in "The Kissing Booth" films and "Minx".
Fans of the novel and the film have eagerly anticipated the sequel, and Amazon MGM Studios' announcement has been met with overwhelming enthusiasm. The studio has promised to deliver a compelling and groundbreaking story that will continue to resonate with audiences worldwide.
