The Television Academy and FOX allegedly have been involved in a debate over when to air the highly-anticipated award event which may get postponed due to possible dual SAG-AFTRA and WGA writers strike.

AceShowbiz - The 75th annual Emmy Awards is scheduled to take place on September 18. However, a new report suggests that the highly-anticipated award event may get postponed due to possible dual SAG-AFTRA and WGA writers strike.

According to Variety, the Television Academy and FOX have been involved in a debate over when to air this year's Emmy Awards. The news outlet reveals that the Television Academy would like to move the show to November, while the TV network appears to be leaning to a January airdate.

Insiders claim to the news site that the Academy and FOX's decision to delay this year's Emmys because of the possibility of dual SAG-AFTRA and WGA writers strike. They allegedly are waiting to see for sure if SAG-AFTRA members will go on strike this week, joining the Writer's Guild of America writers strike that essentially puts all major Hollywood events to a halt. They are expected to make a final decision by the end of July.

While both the org and the TV network agree that canceling the show is not an option, given the Emmys' landmark 75th anniversary, the two sides have two different opinions when it comes to when the show should now take place. The Academy's preferred November date serves as a two-month shift that would keep the ceremony in the fall. It will also make it the first major awards show to take place after the strikes have been hopefully settled and Hollywood returns normal.

However, FOX will ultimately make the call as they're this year's broadcast partner as part of the four-network "wheel deal." It prefers a January date, arguing that its November calendar is already packed with NFL football and other events.

If they decide to air the show in January, Variety notes that it would likely put it on Jan. 21, 2024. The Golden Globes is scheduled for January 7, while the Critics Choice Awards are on January 14.

It's said that the Television Academy will downplay, but still reference the award-giving event's September 18 airdate when announcing this year's nominees. Despite that, the majority of those involved know that it's extremely unlikely that there will be a new date for the Emmys.
