AceShowbiz - Hayley Atwell has opened up more about how "upsetting" it was to be linked romantically to her "colleague and boss" Tom Cruise. In an interview with The Independent, the "Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One" actress revealed the advice she got from her co-star while facing dating rumors between the two.
The 41-year-old star first noted that she sees Tom and "Mission Impossible" director, Chris McQuarrie, as "sort of two uncles." That's why she's annoyed by the chatter surrounding her and her co-star.
"I would be like, 'Ooh, there's some weird rumors, and it feels base, it feels a little dirty, it feels grubby, it's not what I'm about. Why are things being assumed or projected onto me about my relationship with my work colleague and boss?" Hayley argued. She added that the situation was "upsetting" because "it's involving people in my actual life, my personal life, who have to be on the receiving end of that. It becomes invasive."
Hayley went on to recall, "When I've talked to him about it, he'd be like, 'You know exactly who you are. You know what you're about. And that is the only thing that matters." The London-born star continued quoting Tom as saying, "It doesn't matter what people think of you, if you are in integrity with yourself, if you know what your value system is."
Hayley previously addressed the matter when speaking to the Daily Telegraph newspaper. "[It's] part of the machine that's beyond my control. It doesn't surprise me but it's disappointing," she said.
Hayley, who recently got engaged to Ned "Wolfgang" Kelly, also sang praise to Tom for being "polite" and very comfortable with himself. "It's agreed across the board how polite he is, how well mannered - he's just got extraordinary charisma. His intensity is like passion. He has this childlike energy, he's like Peter Pan in a pinball machine. He's a natural extrovert and he's clearly very comfortable with who he is," she gushed.
