AceShowbiz - Daniel "Desus Nice" Baker and Joel "The Kid Mero" Martinez, who are better known collectively as Desus and Mero, are parting ways. The duo, who established one of the top comedy brands of the decade with their podcast "Bodega Boys", have confirmed their split and the end of their eponymous talk show on showtime.
Relaying the sad news to fans was Showtime, which posted on "Desus & Mero" official Twitter account on Monday, July 18 that the show will not be returning for a new season. "Bodega Hive: The illustrious @desusnice and @THEKIDMERO will be pursuing separate creative endeavors moving forward. #DESUSandMERO will not be returning to SHOWTIME. It's been a good run, fam," read the tweet.
Desus and Mero retweeted the message on their own accounts, with the former adding on his post, "shouts to showtime & shouts to the hive, thanks for being part of the journey. proud of the show my staff made every episode." He went on teasing that "big tings soon come…."
The confirmation arrives after rumors have been circulating online for a while that Daniel and Joel may be parting ways after their lauded "Bodega Boys" podcast aired its last episode, "Ep 253: Bathed in Borax", eight months ago.
On June 19, Desus reassured fans that "the art" would be "coming back" and asked them to believe in him. However, things have apparently gone south since then as on his Twitter update nearly a month later, he cryptically wrote, "I tried y'all." He added in a separate tweet on July 15, "the hive deserved better than this ending. Reddit can slander my name but when the truth comes out…..actually just wait."
Meanwhile, fans of Desus and Mero and their shows quickly took to social media to express their sadness over the news. "This is worse than when Cellino and Barnes broke up," one person reacted to the duo's split. A second user remarked, "Wtf is going on???????"
A third person refused to believe the news, writing, "Gotta be hacked. Please say sike. I'm on my knees." Another enthused, "Please respect my privacy during this difficult time," while someone else added, "I guess you lost a customer @Showtime."
