In a new essay talking about her childbirth experience, the model opens up about suffering hemorrhage and losing her ability to walk for a week after giving birth to Malachi and Roman.

AceShowbiz - Ashley Graham had apparently come close to death in her journey to be a mother of three. Months after giving birth to her twin babies, the model got candid in a new and personal essay about how she almost bled to death while delivering Malachi and Roman at home.

To welcome the release of her first portpartum lingerie collection, the "A New Model" author revealed her near-death experience with Glamour Magazine. "I blacked out. All I can remember is feeling a light touch on my cheek, which I found out later was actually somebody smacking the crap out of my cheek," she wrote.

"Someone holding my hand, my husband Justin in my ear, praying. Someone jabbing me with a needle in my arm," the 34-year-old model went on adding. "And I remember seeing darkness and what seemed like stars."

Ashley then recalled the time she regained her conscious and saw everyone around her looking with concern. "When I finally came to, I looked around and I saw everybody. They just kept saying to me, 'You're fine. You're fine. You're fine,' " she remembered. "They didn't want to tell me, right then, that I'd lost liters of blood."

"They didn't want to tell me that one of the midwives had to flip me over, press her finger down right above my vagina bone to try and stop the bleeding," Ashley further divulged. "And they didn't want to tell me that the vein in my arm kept collapsing and they couldn't get the needle in for the Pitocin, so they'd had to put it in my hand."

The "American Beauty Star" host realized what had happened after seeing blood everywhere. "But even though they didn't want to go into the details at that moment, I looked around the room," she added. "Saw blood literally everywhere, and let out this deep, visceral cry - an emotional release from the chaos I had just experienced."

While Ashley was thankfully safe and her twins were healthy, she admitted she lost her ability to walk after the difficult delivery. "Thank goodness the twins were fine, while I lay on that bed for four straight days," the plus-sized model explained. "I couldn't walk for a week. And I didn't leave my house for nearly two months."

Ashley shared that even though her roller-coaster journey of childbirth came to a happy ending, she felt that it was important to be honest about her experience. She reasoned that she wanted to help others who might go through the same thing as her.

"I tell you all of this - in pretty unflinching detail - because I believe in the importance of honesty," she stated. "In revealing things about myself that I hope will help others talk about what they too have been through."
