AceShowbiz - Charlize Theron is officially joining the MCU. The Academy Award-winning actress has shared the first official photos of her Marvel superhero character following her surprise debut in "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness".

On Tuesday, May 10, the "Mad Max: Fury Road" star made use of her Instagram account to introduce her character, Clea, to her followers. One image gives a close-up look at her face while sporting her character makeup.

On the second slide, she posted an official still from the filming in which her sorceress character shares screen with Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange. She simply captioned the snaps, "Meet Clea."

In the comics, Clea is depicted as a human-appearing being and maternally related to the other-dimensional Faltine race of energy beings. She is the disciple, lover and eventual wife of Doctor Stephen Strange, and his ultimate successor as Sorcerer Supreme.

"Multiverse of Madness" scribe told Deadline earlier this week that they always wanted to introduce the character at some point throughout the movie. "We always knew we wanted to introduce Clea, who in the comics is you could say the great love of Doctor Strange, but really in a lot of ways is his formidable equal as a sorcerer herself," he said.

The writer further divulged about the character, "Her backstory is fascinating. She's the niece of Dormammu, the giant floating head from the first movie. And so, they have a lot of great adventures in the comics, and we knew we wanted to introduce her, but it felt like we had to close the book to some extent on his love story with Christine Palmer, Rachel McAdams' character."

"Multiverse of Madness" opened wide in U.S. theaters last week on May 6. The movie earned $187 million on its opening weekend, marking the second-best preview during the pandemic behind "Spider-Man: No Way Home" (2021). So far, it has grossed $201 million in domestically and $278.1 million globally, for a worldwide total of $479.1 million.
