AceShowbiz - G-Eazy had a special birthday gift for his late mom. On Friday, April 15, the "Me, Myself & I" hitmaker released a tribute song dedicated to Suzanne Olmsted titled "Angel" along with its visualizer.
The personalized music video features throwback pictures and footage of the rapper, his mom and loved ones. He kicks off the track by singing, "When I lay down and I fall asleep/ Hope I might see you in my dreams/ But it's been a few months/ Since I seen you in one of these/ Can't find where my faith is/ I been lost in this basement."
Speaking about the emotional track, G-Eazy said in a press release, "Grief can be a difficult thing to navigate. It's definitely not a linear process and it comes at you in waves." He added, "There will never be enough words to describe the feeling of losing your best friend, or the desire to see them again. In a literal sense, I tried to capture that feeling of longing in the lyrics of the song."
"But 'Angel' is so much more than a song or a tribute. My mom was more than just my mom, she was everyone's mom. She was everyone's teacher. She was everyone's inspiration," he added. "Nothing made her happier than loving people and sharing her creativity with the world. Her energy continues to live on through me, through those she connected with and through those she inspired."
In honor of his late mom, G-Eazy is working on starting the Dandelion Scholarship. According to PEOPLE, the program "will reward $15,000 to one U.S. arts major annually." Students can apply this summer.
G-Eazy announced Suzanne's death in November 2021. When sharing the devastating news, the California-based hip-hop star also credited his mom for inspiring him to go to rehabilitation.
"They say the opposite of addiction is connection, and I'd never felt more connected to you than I have in the past months," he penned in a message to his mom. "Coming home to this wasn't easy, and nothing will ever be moving forward… but like you would always say, 'one step at a time and don't look at the summit.' "
