Having been supporting charities that provide relief during the coronavirus crisis, the 'Thinking Out Loud' hitmaker turns his attention to Colchester and Ipswich Hospitals.

AceShowbiz - Ed Sheeran has delighted hospital chiefs in Ipswich, England by donating a "significant" sum to build a new children's ward.

A report in British newspaper The Sun on Wednesday (April 15) cited sources claiming the "Thinking Out Loud" hitmaker was donating to charities providing relief during the coronavirus crisis in his home county of Suffolk - and now hospital bosses have thanked Ed for his generosity.

Colchester and Ipswich Hospitals' chief executive Nick Hulme told the BBC the money he donated would "make a massive difference" and help them build the new ward, adding, "It's such an amazing gift. It shows incredible generosity."

Hulme and his National Health Service colleagues have been trying to raise $3 million (£2.5 million) to build the new ward.

Sheeran grew up near the local town of Framlingham, Suffolk, and now lives on an estate he has built by lining up properties in a nearby village.

The source who previously told The Sun of Sheeran's additional donations to local charities noted, "It is a horrible time and Ed wants to do what he can to help. He has split a seven-figure sum between local charities to try to ease the strain on his local community."

"Ed is very involved in the area and knows that his donations will make a massive difference."
