Paying tribute to the late Italian designer, brand executive Riccardo Sciutto describes the 84-year-old as 'spiritual guide' who 'could capture a woman's femininity in a unique way.'

AceShowbiz - Italian shoe designer Sergio Rossi has died.

The 84-year-old reportedly passed away due to complications from the coronavirus after he was admitted to a Cesena hospital in Italy earlier this week, begins March 30.

"He was a master," brand executive Riccardo Sciutto told WWD.com on Friday (April 03). "It was a great pleasure to have met him. He was our spiritual guide... He could capture a woman's femininity in a unique way."

"He was never over-the-top, always in good taste. The shoes were always wearable and he was never satisfied until they were perfect. They were not accessories for him. He told me once that he wanted to create the perfect extension of a woman's leg."

Rossi's footwear designs were favoured by the likes of Ariana Grande and Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o.

He succumbed to the virus he was helping to fight in Italy - in March, Rossi donated 100,000 Euros to Milan's Sacco hospital to help staff there treating COVID-19 patients.
