The disgraced movie mogul, who was was convicted of rape and a criminal sexual act in February, has reportedly been staying on the sixth floor of the North Infirmary Command's main building.

AceShowbiz - Harvey Weinstein has finally been transported to Rikers Island jail, where he'll await sentencing for sex crimes.

The disgraced movie mogul checked in to Bellevue Hospital in New York hours after he was convicted of rape and a criminal sexual act last month (February), complaining of heart palpitations.

He underwent an operation to put a stent in his heart on Wednesday (March 04) and, according to publicist Juda Engelmayer, the Department of Corrections was "moving him as we speak to the Rikers infirmary unit," during a recent chat with CNN.

Senior Department of Corrections sources told TMZ that Weinstein has been staying on the sixth floor of the main building of the North Infirmary Command, where he has the whole floor to himself in a bid to keep him safe from other inmates.

A 24-hour security system, including surveillance cameras and frequent check-ins by guards, is reportedly in place to monitor the disgraced Hollywood producer's every move - amid concerns about Weinstein harming himself.

The move comes after lawyers for the 67-year-old, who wailed "I'm innocent. How can this happen in America?" when he was found guilty, expressed hope the former Miramax boss would remain under care at the Manhattan hospital until his sentencing next week."

"The treating doctors think that's where he should be - it's that simple," Arthur Aidala, an attorney on Weinstein's legal team, said. "It's no secret he was under several doctors' care over the course of the last couple of months... Obviously, nobody wants anything to happen to Mr. Weinstein because of his health."

Weinstein's sentencing will take place on 11 March.
