The popular mystery author who became the highest-paid female author in the world when she signed $64 million contract in 2000 passed away at the age of 92.

AceShowbiz - Mary Higgins Clark has died at the age of 92.

The author passed away on Friday, January 31, 2020 evening "surrounded by family and friends," her publisher Simon & Schuster confirmed in a Twitter statement.

"It is with deep sadness we say goodbye to the 'Queen of Suspense' Mary Higgins Clark, author of over 40 bestselling suspense titles," they said.

Clark, whose $64 million contract in 2000 made her - at the time - the highest-paid female author in the world, published novels including popular releases "On the Street Where You Live" and "Where Are the Children?" Her most recent release was 2019's "Kiss the Girls and Make Them Cry". Her books have been translated into 35 languages.

Clark was married three times and had five children. Her daughter, Carol Higgins Clark, is a popular mystery author.
