The former President of the United States suffers from the infection only days after discharged from hospital following surgery to treat bleeding on his brain.

AceShowbiz - Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter was hospitalised again over the weekend with a urinary tract infection.

The medical emergency occurred just days after he was released from hospital following surgery to treat bleeding on his brain, and a spokesperson for the former politician confirmed he was admitted to Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia.

"He is feeling better and looks forward to returning home soon," they told People magazine, saying that The Carter Center, the president's humanitarian organisation with wife Rosalynn Carter, would continue to release updates on his health.

America's oldest living ex-president, 95, returned home on Wednesday after being hospitalised two weeks prior in order to undergo surgery to treat a subdural haematoma from repeated falls earlier this year.

He was released following his recovery from the surgery and was set to spend Thanksgiving at home with his wife.

The cancer survivor also underwent a hip replacement in May.
