The new spin-off of AMC's zombie series is set in a distant version from the start of the apocalypse, featuring the lives of the end of the world's first generation to have grown up with zombies around.

AceShowbiz - Fans have finally gotten more details about the third series of "The Walking Dead" franchise. It was announced on Sunday, November 24 that the upcoming series would be titled "The Walking Dead: World Beyond" as its first teaser aired in the midst of the mothership show's mid-season 10 finale.

"Once upon a time, the end of the world was our beginning," one character says in the footage. Elsewhere in the teaser, a helicopter with a certain symbol on it arrives as a character, played by Julia Ormond, declares, "We are the last light of the world. We are the last hope."

Ormond is set to play Elizabeth, "a charismatic leader of a large, sophisticated and formidable force." The show's co-creator Scott M. Gimple said of her casting, "We are thrilled to have Julia join our merry band. I'm grateful for the talent, grace, intelligence, and humor she has brought to our set, our show and to this role."

"We -- and the audience -- are very lucky to have Julia helping bring this new world of the 'Walking Dead' to life," he added.

Also among the cast members are Natalie Gold ("Succession"), Al Calderon ("Step Up: High Water") and Scott Adsit ("Veep", "30 Rock"). Gold plays Lyya, a mysterious figure operating in the shadows on behalf of the cause she believes in, while Calderon portrays a character named Barca. Adsit stars as Tony with Tony Sutherland ("Fear Street", "Rise") playing a character named Percy.

The cast also includes Aliyah Royale as Iris, Alexa Mansour as Hope, Annet Mahendru as Huck and Nicolas Cantu as Elton. Hal Cumpston and Nico Tortorella join, playing Silas and Felix respectively.

The new spin-off, which is scheduled to premiere in spring 2020, is set in a distant version from the start of the apocalypse, featuring the lives of the end of the world's first generation to have grown up with zombies around. "World Beyond" will also focus on a group of young men, women and children whose experience in the zombie apocalypse has been much less immediately dangerous than what fans have seen in other shows.

Co-creators Gimple and showrunner Matt Negrete, Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert and Brian Bockrath are executive producing “The Walking Dead: World Beyond".
