Robyn, who alleges she had a romantic relationship with Whitney in the '80s, has opened up about the singer's life in her powerful new memoir, "A Song for You: My Life with Whitney Houston".
In an excerpt of the book, obtained by People, Robyn recalled how her pal became infatuated with Eddie Murphy - while she was still being pursued by Bobby Brown in 1989.
"She was more interested in Eddie Murphy, but he was elusive," she penned, adding the "So Emotional" star "lost herself" in the pursuit of the comedian.
She went on to describe Whitney's preparations for dinner one night with the "Saturday Night Live" comic, who was scheduled to visit her at her New Jersey mansion.
"One day when Eddie was supposed to come for dinner, I caught a glimpse of Whitney," Robyn wrote. "She was wearing a black dress and low-heeled slingbacks. For a moment, I thought 'Boy, I wish she was doing that for me.' "
However, she revealed Eddie "never showed up that night," and the "I Have Nothing" star was left devastated.
Later, on the morning of her 18 July 1992 wedding to Bobby Brown, she recalled, the star did attempt to contact Whitney, as Robyn remembered: "Eddie Murphy called to say she was making a mistake... but she pressed ahead."
Whitney and Bobby were married for 15 years, before their turbulent union came to a head in 2007.
"A Song For You: My Life with Whitney Houston" is out November 12.
