Opening up about the loss of the Maltese Shih Tzu, the 'Strictly Come Dancing' host claims the death of Minnie is 'a dog owner's worst nightmare' and 'has had a huge effect on the whole family.'

AceShowbiz - British TV presenter Tess Daly is heartbroken after she accidentally ran over and killed her dog.

The "Strictly Come Dancing" host drove over Minnie, a Maltese Shih Tzu, on her return to the family home, which is currently undergoing renovations.

According to The Sun on Sunday, a workman mistakenly left a door open, leading the pet to escape to the driveway as Tess was returning to her $4.6 million (£3.5 million) Buckinghamshire, England mansion in her Range Rover.

She was unaware Minnie had gotten out and did not have time to react as the pet suddenly ran under her front wheels.

"I'm devastated by this terrible accident," the 49-year-old personality shared. "It's a dog owner's worst nightmare. It has had a huge effect on the whole family and we are heartbroken at losing Minnie."

"This has, and continues to be, a very emotional time for us all."

The tragedy happened in March, just days before Tess, her husband and fellow TV host Vernon Kay, and their daughters Phoebe, 14, and Amber, nine, were due to fly to the Maldives to celebrate her upcoming 50th birthday.

Tess and Vernon, who also have a four-year-old Chihuahua called Blue, returned from the two-week break with their daughters on Friday, April 05.

Minnie regularly featured in the couple's Instagram posts, and it is understood the heartbroken family held a memorial for the dog in the grounds of their gardens before burying her.
