Calling David Benioff and D.B. Weiss 'absolute game changers' and 'visionary storytellers', IATAS president reveals that the pair will be presented with the Founders Award in November.

AceShowbiz - The masterminds behind hit TV show "Game of Thrones" are set to be feted with a top prize at the 2019 International Emmy Awards.

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, who are preparing to launch the eighth and final season of the hugely popular fantasy drama, will be presented with the Founders Award by officials at the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in recognition of their "creative accomplishments," which have "contributed in some way to the quality of global television production".

The series films around the world, including in Northern Ireland, Morocco, Iceland, and Croatia, and airs in more than 207 countries, reports TheWrap.

"The International Academy does us all a great honor," Benioff and Weiss share in a statement. "From cast to crew to locations, the 'Game of Thrones' effort was truly international, and this award rightly belongs to all the people who worked so hard for so many years to bring the show to life."

Praising the pair for their high standard of work, Bruce L. Paisner, president and CEO of IATAS, adds: "David and D.B. are absolute game changers, visionary storytellers who have created, with their first foray into television, a record breaking global cultural phenomenon with an international following like no other."

"We look forward to honoring their extraordinary talent and the 'Game of Thrones' legacy, with our Founders Award."

Previous honourees include Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg, J.J. Abrams, Ryan Murphy, Shonda Rhimes, and Greg Berlanti, who received the accolade last year (18).

The 2019 International Emmy Awards are set to take place in New York City in November.
