AceShowbiz - Actor Peter Sarsgaard is set to tackle a new true crime drama series about a young man convicted of murdering his mother.

The "An Education" star will portray the lead detective in "Interrogation", which will detail the real life murder mystery which spanned more than 30 years.

Unlike a traditional crime series, each episode of the show will centre on a different police interrogation taken directly from the actual case files, with the viewer encouraged to try and solve the case themselves.

The show, co-created by Anders Weidemann and John Mankiewicz, will be produced for America's CBS All Access video-on-demand streaming service, allowing fans to watch the first nine episodes in any order, before the season finale airs at a later date, reports Deadline.com.

"This non-linear approach to storytelling is closer to how real detectives work, picking their own path through the evidence in a search for the truth," Weidemann explains in a statement to TheWrap.

A premiere date has yet to be set.
