AceShowbiz - Joker is in a mourning mode in new set photos of the upcoming Batman spin-off. On Monday, November 26, Joaquin Phoenix was spotted filming a scene of the DC movie in a cemetery in New York City.
Unlike typical mourners who usually opt for black ensembles, the actor who portrays the title character a.k.a. Arthur Fleck went with a maroon vest and suit with matching pants. He also wore a striped tie and a white shirt underneath.
Phoenix was walking around the graveyard holding an umbrella on the rainy day. In between takes of the scene, he kept himself warm by wearing a red puffer jacket and putting his hands inside his jacket pockets. He ditched his clown makeup to show his bare face.
It's unclear whose grave he's visiting or what he's doing there, but the fact that Arthur doesn't wear Joker makeup hints that the scene is set before he transforms into a psychopathic criminal he's widely known by DC Comics book fans.
In the upcoming movie, Joker is depicted as a failed stand-up comedian who goes insane and becomes a murdering psychopath. The origin movie is described as a gritty character study of the signature villain of Batman, and also a broader cautionary tale of a man disregarded by society who becomes the ultimate supervillain.
Zazie Beetz, Brett Cullen, Frances Conroy, Marc Maron, Robert De Niro, Shea Whigham, Glenn Fleshler, Bill Camp, Douglas Hodge and Josh Pais star in the movie, which is written and directed by Todd Phillips. The movie will also feature young Bruce Wayne and his loyal butler Alfred Pennyworth, with child actor Dante Pereira-Olson and Douglas Hodge taking on the roles, respectively.
Todd also serves as producer along with Martin Scorsese and Emma Tillinger Koskoff. The DC-Warner Bros. movie is scheduled for an October 4, 2019 release in the United States.
