Rumors have been swirling since 2005 that Ashlee was singing about the former couple when she said, 'I didn't steal your boyfriend.'

AceShowbiz - Ashlee Simpson has confirmed her song Boyfriend is all about Lindsay Lohan and Wilmer Valderrama's secret romance.

Rumours have been swirling since 2005 that Ashlee, who is now married to Evan Ross, was singing about the former couple when she said, "I didn't steal your boyfriend".

She initially denied it was about anyone specific, but now reveals the song was inspired by them. However, she insists the situation was not as salacious as it was made out to be in the media at the time, and she was simply explaining that she dated the actor first.

"I mean, I hung out with (Wilmer) first, and I wasn't interested in him at that point," she said on Watch What Happens Live! on Tuesday, September 04. "We're great! All is well! And by the way, they're the best! All the love!".

Ashlee then went on to reiterate she didn't steal Wilmer from Lohan, because she "was done" seeing Wilmer at the time.

In 2005, Ashlee insisted Boyfriend was about situations that many women go through, but didn't point to anyone specifically when she was asked who she had in mind when she wrote the track.

"It's not about one person in particular," she told MTV. "It's just something every girl can relate to. It's a song about (how) every girl out there sometimes thinks you stole her boyfriend. It's just making fun of that".

"It's very junior high, high school, college, and whatnot, the situation," she later added to Ryan Seacrest. "And it's me kind of making fun of something I went through. As far as saying who the song I wrote it about, or whatever, I'm not doing that with this record".
