AceShowbiz - A 2006 love song by rockers Plain White T's has inspired a new TV series.
The band scored a big hit with Hey There Delilah, in which the stars detailed a flirtatious long-distance relationship between an aspiring singer/songwriter and a college student in New York, and now the lyrics have been used as the basis for a scripted romantic comedy.
Frontman Tom Higgenson and writer Jeremy Desmon have teamed up to produce the project, which they are set to pitch to TV bosses in Los Angeles this month, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"It's been more than a decade since 'Hey There Delilah' was released, and people always ask me about it," Higgenson explained. "A whole lot of people really connected with that song, and I'm very proud of that. I'm so excited to have an opportunity to give a new generation the chance to form their own connection with the song, and fall in love with its story through this new project."
The track featured on Plain White T's 2005 album, All That We Needed, and was released in 2006, but it only started to receive widespread radio play in 2007, when it topped America's Billboard Hot 100 chart, and went on to be nominated for two Grammy Awards.
It's also proved popular on TV, and has been featured on the soundtrack to shows including Orange Is the New Black, Family Guy, and Sesame Street.
