The veteran actress will reprise her role as King Lear in the new adaption of the William Shakespeare play.

AceShowbiz - Veteran actress and former politician Glenda Jackson will reprise her role as King Lear on Broadway next year (19).

The Oscar and Tony Award winner has played Lear at London's The Old Vic theatre in 2016 and she will return to the role in a new adaptation of William Shakespeare's play.

"Performing King Lear in London was a wonderful and fulfilling experience, but this is a role you continue to work on and to make new discoveries," she says. "I am thrilled to have the opportunity to explore the role anew, and look forward to the challenge of performing it on Broadway".

The stageshow, produced by Scott Rudin, will begin previews in March and open in April.

The new production comes after Jackson returned to the Broadway stage after a 29-year absence for a revival of Edward Albee's play Three Tall Women earlier this year. She won a Tony Award, Drama Desk Award, Outer Critics Circle Award, and Drama League Award for her performance in the play.

She also received an Olivier nomination, an Evening Standard Award for Best Actress, and a Critics Circle Award for Best Shakespearean Performance for her Lear performance in London.
