Daniel Oyebanjo III drowned in a pool at the singer's residence in Lagos, Nigeria's capital.

AceShowbiz - Afrobeats star D'Banj's young son has reportedly died in a drowning accident.

D'banj, real name Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo, was a no-show at the 2018 BET Awards on Sunday night (June 24) in Los Angeles, with local media in his home nation of Nigeria reporting that his absence was due to the death of his 13-month-old son Daniel Oyebanjo III.

Editors at the Pulse Nigeria website report that baby Daniel drowned in a pool at D'banj's residence in Lagos, the country's capital.

The musician hinted at his loss on social media, writing: "Trying Times (broken heart) (black heart). But my God is Always and Forever Faithful (praying emoji)."

At the BET Awards bash, fellow Afrobeats star Davido paid tribute to his friend and offered his "condolences" before accepting the Best International Act prize. D'banj, 38, won the Best International Act (Africa) prize back in 2011 - and achieved global fame with his hit Oliver Twist the following year.

Fans were quick to offer the musician and his family their support after the tragedy, with one writing underneath his Instagram post: "My condolences to your entire family. I pray God grants you all the fortitude to bear this loss."

D'banj's Instagram feed features numerous pictures of his son - including a couple of snaps with British-Nigerian actor John Boyega.
