Joo Won and BoA are back in the market. The two stars are confirmed to have broken up after dating for less than a year. The news first broke on Monday, November 13. Following the report, their agencies initially said that they would check with the pair before releasing a statement.

Joo Won's agency Huayi Brothers later released an official statement regarding the couple's relationship status. "Joo Won and BoA recently broke up. It is difficult to know the reason and timing because it has to do with their personal lives," they said.

Joo Won and BoA confirmed their romance in January this year. They reportedly started dating in the latter half of 2016, after meeting through acquaintances. Media outlet TV Report reported at the time the pair enjoyed several similar hobbies, and "are a pleasant couple who care for each other and are careful of their relationship. They are a couple envied by everyone around them."

The 30-year-old actor started his mandatory military service on May 16 this year, after completing the filming of and doing promotional activities for "My Sassy Girl", a historical remake of the 2001 film of the same title.

Prior to his enlistment day, the "Bridal Mask" star shared a message that she had told him. "It may seem like a long time, but it's really not... return safely and in healthy condition," she told him before his enlistment day.

He also shared his thoughts about leaving for the army, "I'm leaving tomorrow, but I'm actually in a good mood at the moment." The Sungkyunkwan University and Konkuk University graduate added that his friends told him to cheer up when they spent time together days before. "My friends told me to 'brighten up a bit,' " he said.

As for BoA, she recently landed her first leading role in a film titled "Autumn Sonata", which was released on October 19. The former "K-pop Star" judge stars opposite Lee Hak Joo in the movie.
