List will be the third actress to play the Batman villain after Clare Foley and Maggie Geha, and is set to appear in early 2018.
List will be coming off as the latest toxic transformation for the character, which was previously played by Clare Foley and Maggie Geha. Foley portrayed the Batman villain in season 1, in which Ivy was depicted as a streetwise orphan and a friend of Selina Kyle (Camren Bicondova). The role was taken over by Geha after Ivy touched Marv (Victor Pagan) in the beginning of season 3, causing her to age instantly.
"In the continuing evolution of Poison Ivy's origin story, Ivy Pepper has been transformed once again taking another step toward becoming the Ivy we know from the comics," says the FOX series' producers in a statement. "Dangerous. A live wire of crazy energy. She'll set her sights on Gotham, intent on making the city her own green paradise."
List, who recurs on "The Flash" as Lisa Snart, is set to join the show in a recurring guest capacity and will first appear in early 2018.
Following the casting announcement, a slew of fans jump to Twitter to weigh in on the decision. The majority of them seemingly aren't too thrilled to have a new actress playing the character, wondering whether the recasting is necessary to begin with.
"Oh come on. What was wrong with keeping Maggie Geha?" writes a fan. Another fan similarly tweets, "You don't deserve something like that @maggiegeha WE WANT YOU PLAYING POISON IVY. We can't understand why they are doing this."

Some others think Geha is "a great Poison Ivy," adding that she should be cast in "Gotham City Sirens" now that she has ended her gig on the TV series.
I don't even watch Gotham but Maggie Geha was a great Poison Ivy ❤️ So now that she won't be on the show anymore WB could cast her for #GothamCitySirens— MS nothing (@TheSophiaFoxXx) October 30, 2017
Despite the relatively negative response, some fans are looking forward for List playing Ivy. "Peyton as Poison Ivy! This is fantastic ! #gotham #peytonlist," says a fan, while another fan similarly tweets, "Okay I can see Peyton as Poison Ivy and I get why they cast her, they want her to be mature, not childish like Maggie's version was."
