F.T. Island's Lee Hongki is set to make a drama comeback after three years. The 27-year-old singer has been confirmed to join Hong Sisters ("Sassy Girl Chun Hyang", "You're Beautiful", "Master's Sun") and tvN's upcoming drama "Hwayugi". The romantic fantasy drama is based on an ancient novel titled "Journey to the West".

Lee Hongki will be playing Zhu Bajie, a pig monster who is living as top global star P.K. He has the ability to get all women in the world under his skin in only 10 minutes. With his popularity and sociability, he will gain information and go back and forth between Son Oh Gong and Woo Ma Wang.

"We are looking forward to the energy that Lee Hong Ki's excellent acting skills and bright charms will bring to the drama," a source from the drama commented.

Hongki joins a star-studded cast, including Oh Yeon Seo and Cha Seung Won. Oh Yeon Seo will be taking the role of Jin Sun Mi, while the "Athena: Goddess of War" actor will portray Woo Ma Wang.

"Hwayugi" is about how indulgent hooligan and rebellious monster Son Oh Gong and charming but pretentious celebrity and monster Woo Ma Gong fight to find the light in a dark and evil world.

Rumor has it, the drama is eyeing Lee Seung Gi and former Sistar member Bora. Both stars reportedly haven't decided whether they will take the gig.

"Hwayugi" marks Lee Hongki's first drama after last appearing on "Modern Farmer" as well as his reunion with Hong Sisters after starring on "You're Beautiful" in 2009. He played Lee Minki on "Modern Farmer", starring opposite Lee Honey and Kwang Dong Yeon. Hongki's credits include "My Girlfriend Is a Gumiho", "Muscle Girl" and "Bride of the Century".

Directed by Park Hong Kyun ("The Great Queen Seon Deok"), "Hwayugi" is slated to premiere mid-December on SBS.
