AceShowbiz - The first trailer for "X-Men" spin-off "The New Mutants" is here! The heart-pounding video introduces us to a group of young mutants played by the likes of Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Heaton, Henry Zaga and Blu Hunt.
The approximately-2-minute trailer opens with Dr. Cecilia Reyes, portrayed by "Queen of the South" actress Alice Braga, telling one of the young mutants that they're dangerous. "Did you know baby rattlesnakes are more dangerous than adult ones?" the doctor says.
Braga's character is described as a mentor to the group, and "a medical doctor who has the ability to generate a protective bio-field around herself." "Game of Thrones" star Williams plays Wolfsbane, a Scottish mutant "struggling to reconcile her religious beliefs with her power to turn into a wolf."
"Split" actress Taylor-Joy is Magik, a Russian sorceress who "uses teleportation discs to travel." She is the sister of Colossus, an X-Man seen in previous "X-Men" films. Heaton ("Stranger Things") plays Cannonball, a Kentuckian mutant "who can propel himself into the air and is invulnerable while doing so."
Zaga is Sunspot, "a Brazilian mutant with the ability to manipulate solar energy." The character was previously portrayed by Adan Canto in "X-Men: Days of Future Past". Hunt takes on the role of Mirage, a Native American mutant "who has the power to create illusions drawn from the fears and desires of a person's mind."
The newly-released trailer indeed delivers a horror vibe, just like what director Josh Boone previously said. Boone, who's directing from a script he co-wrote with Knate Lee, told Entertainment Weekly, "We are making a full-fledged horror movie set within the X-Men universe. There are no costumes. There are no supervillains. We're trying to do something very, very different."
The helmer went on describing the upcoming film as "a darker and more surreal and impressionistic X-Men series than we'd ever seen before. It felt like Stephen King meets John Hughes."
The film is coming to U.S. theaters on April 13, 2018.
