Star Liam Cunningham reveals that the eighth and final season of the hit HBO series will be filmed until next summer, while Iain Glen shares the reason it takes longer time to finish production.

AceShowbiz - Evidence that the eighth and final season of "Game of Thrones" won't be hitting the small screen until 2019 is starting to pile up, much to fans' disappointment. Although season 8 will have 6 episodes only, it doesn't mean that the production will be done in a shorter period.

In fact, according to one of its actors, season 8 is set to be filmed until next summer, skipping next year entirely. "[The episodes are] definitely going to be bigger and what I hear is longer. We're filming right up until the summer," Liam Cunningham, who plays Ser Davos Seaworth, reveals to TV Guide.

He goes on saying, "When you think about it, up until last season we'd have six months to do ten episodes, so we're [doing] way more than that for six episodes. So that obviously will translate into longer episodes."

In a brighter note, Cunningham's statement seemingly confirms rumors of expanded episode run times for season 8. It was previously said that each episode would be in the neighborhood of 90 minutes.

Fellow "Game of Thrones" star Iain Glen, meanwhile, unearths some details about why season 8 takes longer time to shoot. Speaking in a Q&A session at Stockholm Comic-Con, the Ser Jorah Mormont depicter opens up, "We're all starting to occupy the same territory, we're all starting to be in the same storylines and so they can't [have two filming units] anymore."

With only one filming unit, it makes sense that the final season requires 10 months of production, which is roughly twice the 6-month filming that the show usually takes. He continues, "I think this last season will take much longer to shoot because they can only use one unit because we're all in the same sort of scenes."

Expect something bigger and more expensive in the 6-part final season. Previous report suggested the network would spend $15 million apiece, marking the most expensive TV episodes ever in recent years. It looks like the wait for season 8 is going to be worth your while.
