The upcoming second season will all about the 'shadow monster,' a giant creature Will first meets in PTSD-like visions of the Upside Down.

AceShowbiz - To add the hype around the upcoming sophomore season of Netflix's "Stranger Things", series creators Ross and Matt Duffer and stars offer some insights into the new season. Actor Finn Wolfhard draws an analogy between the freshman season and "drinking a Coke," but season 2 will be bigger and stronger as if you drink "a Red Bull."

"When we started describing it as a sequel, Netflix was like, 'Don't do that, because sequels are known to be bad,' " Matt tells Entertainment Weekly. "I was like, 'Yes, but what about 'T2' and 'Aliens' and 'Toy Story 2' and 'Godfather II'?"

"The good news is that a lot of what we wanted to see or what we responded to, that seems to be what the audience responded to," he adds. "Like we fell in love with Gaten [Gaten Matarazzo], and there were aspects, like Barb, we were already planning to deal with. It felt like there was a nice alignment between what we wanted to see and what other people wanted to see."

The creator notes that season 2 will be different from the first season, which mainly focused on finding Will (Noah Schnapp) and defeating the demogorgon. Season 2 of "Stranger Things" will feature several disparate storylines that all revolve around something called the "shadow monster," a nickname given to a giant creature Will first meets in PTSD-like visions of the Upside Down.

"It's all connected to this singular threat, which is tied into this shape that Will sees in the sky," Ross reveals. Matt further explains that season 2 will have its episodes "building on the last on," before adding, "It gets much crazier than it ever got in season 1."

The team behind the hit Netflix sci-fi series also teases that by the end of the new season, it will introduce us to a slew of new characters. Bob (Sean Austin) is among them, playing a love interest for Joyce (Winona Ryder). Also set to be featured in the upcoming season is jaw-dropping action sequences.

"Stranger Things" is slated to return for season 2 on October 27 on Netflix. The official description reads, "It's 1984 and the citizens of Hawkins, Indiana are still reeling from the horrors of the Demogorgan and the secrets of Hawkins Lab. Will Byers has been rescued from the Upside Down but a bigger, sinister entity still threatens those who survived."
