Following the overwhelming success of 2017's 'Wonder Woman', it seemed like the network thought that there would be no need for a prequel series.

Long before "Wonder Woman" got its theatrical debut, The CW announced in 2012 that it was developing a prequel series which would be focusing on the tale of the Amazons. However, during Television Critics Association summer press tour, the network revealed that it was longer the case.
The project, which was called "Amazon", was put on ice following the box office success of Gal Gadot-starring movie "Wonder Woman". Jarett Wieselman, who was present at the event during The CW panel, took to his Twitter account to share the news. "No plans to redevelop #Amazon-The CW's once planned #WonderWoman prequel-now that the films are so successful #TCA17," wrote Wieselman.

It seemed like the network thought that there would be no need for a prequel since the film featured Princess Diana's origin so succinctly. In addition, the network already has plenty of other DC properties on its plate. The network is set to release its new DC Superhero series, "Black Lightning", in early 2018.
"Amazon" was originally developed by Allan Heinberg ("Wonder Woman") before he stepped down and was replaced by Alon Eli Coleite ("Heroes"). While "Amazon" is bound to die, fans will be getting more of the Themysciran princess as "Wonder Woman 2" is set to hit the U.S. theaters in 2019.
